What are some typical plants used in a Victorian garden?

Since I've been getting into historical gardening styles, I'm curious about the types of plants that are commonly found in Victorian gardens. I’ve got a variety of flowers and herbs thriving on my rooftop, but I want to add a touch of authenticity to my collection. I’ve seen pictures of beautiful hydrangeas and peonies that seem to be staples in these gardens, but I'm not sure if they'd do well in my climate. I’m located in a desert area, so I assume I’ll need drought-tolerant varieties if I go for it. Could anyone recommend specific plants or even some substitutes that might fit a Victorian theme while being suitable for my environment? Thanks a bunch! 🌼
