How can I introduce native aquatic plants into my existing garden?

I'm really interested in enhancing biodiversity in my backyard garden here in Mexico City, and I've been thinking about adding some native aquatic plants to my small pond. 🌿 I've spent over 20 years growing traditional Mexican crops and I've always focused on sustainability, so it feels like a natural step for me. However, I’m unsure which aquatic plants would thrive in my specific conditions and how to introduce them without disrupting the current ecosystem. I've read a bit about species like the water lily and the Mexican sword plant, but I’m not really familiar with their care needs or how they might interact with other plants in the pond. My setup has some shaded areas and gets good sunlight during parts of the day, but I worry about water temperature and quality too. Can anyone share their experiences or tips on what native aquatic plants might be best suited for my garden? Any advice on the introduction process would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! 😊
