What are eco-friendly options for garden edging in my wildlife garden?

I'm really enthusiastic about creating a wildlife-friendly garden here in my hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. I’ve been trying to incorporate more eco-friendly practices, especially since I focus on perennials and native plants. Recently, I've been considering various materials for edging but want to avoid anything that could harm the local ecosystem. I’ve used stones and wood in the past, but I'm curious if there are more sustainable options that won't leach harmful chemicals into the soil. Also, I'd love to know which of these materials might attract beneficial insects or create habitats for critters! Can anyone share their experiences or suggestions for eco-friendly garden edging options that fit this purpose?
