How can I design my backyard to maximize biodiversity while maintaining aesthetics?

I'm currently rethinking my backyard landscape in Lagos, aiming to create a vibrant ecosystem that supports local wildlife. I've researched various native plants that can thrive in our climate and have already incorporated a few, but I'm struggling to find the right balance between aesthetics and ecological function. My garden features a small seating area surrounded by flowering plants and some shrubs, but it feels a bit static and lacking in diversity. I want to introduce more variety in plant height and texture to attract pollinators and other beneficial creatures, but I'm concerned about cluttering the space or disrupting the existing design. I've tried layering some plants, but it hasn't worked out as well as I hoped. Can anyone provide guidance on specific native plant combinations or layout strategies that would enhance both the biodiversity and visual appeal of my garden? Any tips on maintaining this biodiversity in an urban context would also be greatly appreciated!
