Best practices for using a garden sprayer on delicate plants?

I've got some delicate plants in my garden that I absolutely adore, like my heirloom tomatoes and sweet peas. However, I've been cautious about using my garden sprayer on them, fearing that the pressure might damage them. I'm based in Melbourne, and I've been gardening for over 25 years, but I could use some fresh insights on how to approach this. I've tried using a finer mist setting, but I'm not entirely sure if that's enough. What are the best practices for using a sprayer on more sensitive plants? Should I dilute my solutions more? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
