Incorporating companion planting in my vertical setup.

I'm looking to enhance my indoor vertical garden by incorporating companion planting techniques, but I'm a bit puzzled about how to best implement this in a soil-less system. My setup mainly consists of basil, lettuce, and cilantro, and I've read about the benefits of pairing certain plants together for pest control and growth enhancement. However, I'm unsure how to integrate this within the confines of my vertical setup. I've tried grouping plants based on their growth height, but I want to take it a step further. Any advice or experiences on successful companion plants that thrive together in a hydroponic vertical garden?
