What are the best techniques for aerating my compost pile?
I have a conventional compost pile in my semi-retired garden, and I’m keen on ensuring it’s well-aerated to promote optimal decomposition. I’ve tried turning it regularly using a pitchfork, but I sometimes find that the inner material isn’t breaking down as efficiently as I’d like. Given my experience with traditional composting methods, I’m interested in exploring different techniques for aeration. Should I consider using compost aerators or perhaps even creating a bin with better airflow? I’d love to hear about practical methods that have worked for others in managing aerobic and anaerobic processes in their compost. Any suggestions on aeration techniques would be appreciated!
