Do companion plants really help deter Japanese beetles?

Hi everyone! I’m starting to wonder if planting certain companion plants might help keep those pesky Japanese beetles at bay. My garden is primarily filled with herbs and a few Asian vegetables, but I want to experiment with some companion planting. I’ve heard that marigolds and garlic can repel beetles, but can anyone confirm if that’s true? Also, what other plants should I consider that might help? I’d love to hear about your experiences and what worked or didn’t in your gardens!
