What is the impact of compost on cactus soil mixes regarding nutrient availability?

Living in a desert climate, I've mainly relied on inorganic components for my cactus soil mixes, such as perlite and coarse sand. Lately, however, I’ve been considering the inclusion of compost for its nutrient qualities. My garden features a variety of cacti, and I want to understand how compost could alter the nutrient availability and potentially impact their growth or health. I’ve read mixed opinions about organic matter in cactus soils. What have your experiences been with this? Would it be wise to create a small test batch with compost, and if so, what considerations should I keep in mind regarding balance and potential risks?
