Can I compost certain types of diseased plant material?
As a retired botanist, I’m always interested in maintaining biodiversity and health within my garden, which is why I’m cautious about what goes into my compost bin. Recently, I had a few plants that developed powdery mildew, and I’m uncertain if I should compost the infected material. My garden setup in Accra features a variety of indigenous flowers and vegetables, and I want to avoid spreading diseases. I’ve been researching this topic, but I would like to hear from experienced gardeners about their practices regarding composting diseased plant material. What precautions or treatments should I consider?
