Can I use coco coir for mulching around my balcony fruit trees?

I've been experimenting with different mulching materials in my balcony fruit garden here in Paris, and I’m particularly interested in the idea of using coco coir as a mulch. I’ve heard it can help retain moisture and suppress weeds, which sounds great for my collection of young fruit trees. However, I'm unclear about how effective it would be compared to traditional mulches and whether it might lead to any complications, such as nitrogen depletion. I've used wood chips and straw in the past, but I'm curious about the long-term implications of using coco coir as a mulch. Does anyone have experience with this? What are the pros and cons I should consider?
